HALF TEASPOON BICARBONATE OF SODA
2 TABLESPOONS BLACK TREACLE
130ML MILK
FOR THE SAUCE
50G BUTTER
70G LIGHT MUSCOVADO SUGAR
HALF TABLESPOON BLACK TREACLE
150ML DOUBLE CREAM

PREHEAT THE OVEN 160° FAN AND LINE A SHALLOW DISH OR TIN WITH BAKING PAPER
NOW LET’S GO
IN A BOWL ADD BUTTER, SUGAR, FLOUR, EGG, BAKING POWDER, BICARBONATE OF SODA AND TREACLE AND MIX (OR WHISK IN A MIXER)

SLOWLY POUR THE MILK IN IN WHILE MIXING

POUR THE MIX INTO THE TIN AND BAKE IN THE OVEN FOR 25-35 MINUTES. TO CHECK IT’S COOKED THROUGH USE A SKEWER TO CHECK. POKE IT INTO THE MIDDLE AND IF NO MIXTURE STICKS TO THE SKEWER THEN IT’S READY!
THEN
TO MAKE THE SAUCE, ADD ALL THE INGREDIENTS INTO A PAN AND DISSOLVE THE MIXTURE ON A LOW HEAT. KEEP STIRRING UNTIL IT’S ALL COMBINED. (YOU CAN MAKE THIS WHILE THE CAKE IS COOKING, IT CAN BE REHEATED TOO)
FINALLY
DISH OUT THE SPONGE CAKE AND DRIZZLE OVER THE SAUCE.
