SLOW COOK THE BEEF IN A SLOW COOKER IF YOU HAVE ONE FOR SUPER SOFT MEAT AND SERVE WITH MASH AND CARROTS



INGREDIENTS
SHORTCRUST PASTRY – SHOP BOUGHT READY ROLL WILL WORK IF YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO MAKE YOUR OWN
400G PLAIN FLOUR
200G BUTTER
PINCH OF SALT
DROP OF WATER
400G DICED BEEF
1 ONION – DICED
1 BEEF STOCK CUBE
SALT AND PEPPER
GRAVY GRANULES
WORCESTER SAUCE
TOMATO PUREE
RECIPE
FIRSTLY
COAT YOUR DICED BEEF IN PLAIN FLOUR AND THEN ADD TO A FRYING PAN WITH A LITTLE OIL AND BROWN THE MEAT FOR 5 MINUTES. SWITCH ON YOUR SLOW COOKER TO LOW AND ADD A CUP OF WATER. AFTER YOUR MEAT HAD BROWNED ON THE OUTSIDE ADD IT TO THE SLOW COOKER AND POP THE LID ON.
THEN…
FRY YOUR DICED ONION IN THE SAME FRYING PAN WITH A BIT OF BUTTER UNTIL SOFT, THEN ADD THEM TO THE SLOW COOKER.
ADD…
THE STOCK CUBE INTO THE SLOW COOKER ALONG WITH 300ML WATER
NOW THIS WILL BE READY IN AS LITTLE AS 2 HOURS BUT I LIKE TO LEAVE MINE FOR MUCH LONGER SO THE MEAT IS REALLY SOFT. 6 HOURS+ IS BEST, SO YOU COULD PUT THIS ON IN THE MORNING AND IT WOULD BE SUPER SOFT BY TEA TIME!
NOW MAKE YOUR PASTRY
MIX PLAIN FLOUR AND BUTTER IN A MIXER (OR BY HAND) UNTIL IT RESEMBLES BREADCRUMB LIKE TEXTURE. ADD IN A PINCH OF SALT AND THEN SLOWLY ADD WATER UNTIL IT FORMS PASTRY. SQUASH IT INTO A BALL AND WRAP IN CLINGFILM IN THE FRIDGE TO CHILL.
(REMOVE YOUR PASTRY FROM THE FRIDGE 30 MINUTES BEFORE USING IT SO YOU CAN ROLL IT)
WHEN THE MEAT IS NICE AND SOFT
MIX 200ML BOILING WATER WITH GRAVY GRANULES TO CREATE A THICK SAUCE AND POUR THIS INTO THE SLOW COOKER AND MIX.ADD A FEW SPLASHES OF WORCESTER SAUCE AND A TABLESPOON OF TOMATO PUREE, SPRINKLE WITH SALT AND PEPPER LEAVE FOR 10 MORE MINUTES
ROLL THE PASTRY
USE A ROUND PIE DISH OR A SHALLOW TIN.
USE HALF YOUR PASTRY FOR THE BOTTOM AND SAVE SOME FOR THE TOP!
ROLL IT OUT AND PLACE THE BOTTOM PASTRY IN YOUR DISH/TIN AND POP INTO THE OVEN ON 160°C FOR 5 MINUTES TO START TO COOK THE BASE SLIGHTLY (THIS IS SO IT DOESN’T GET A SOGGY BOTTOM)
REMOVE FROM THE OVEN AND THEN POUR IN ALL THE BEEF SAUCE FROM THE SLOW COOKER. (IF IT’S TO RUNNY THEN ADD MORE GRAVY GRANULES!)
NOW DECORATE THE TOP! EITHER 1 SHEET OVER THE WHOLE TOP OR STRIPS OF PASTRY TO CREATE A LATTICE EFFECT. I PLAITED PASTRY FOR THE EDGE TOO BUT YOU CAN DO IT HOWEVER YOU LIKE!
IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE WAVY CRUST THEN USE YOUR HAND AND PULL THE PASTRY TOWARDS YOU (LIKE BELOW)

BAKE
IN THE OVEN 180°C FOR 20-30 MINUTES UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN!
SERVE WITH CARROTS AND MASH
